Who is RWJF and how do they increase J & J product sales?

Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) claims to provide financial grants to non-governmental agencies in order to affect government policies that would help people and communities. The facts however, point to a foundation that funds policies which only serve to benefit RWJF and Johnson & Johnson companies bottom line profits (RWJF was founded by J & J founder Robert Wood Johnson and RWJF is still one of the largest shareholders of J & J stock). RWJF funds smoking ban lobbyists because parent company J & J manufactures alternative nicotine products such as Nicoderm. RWJF funds anti-obesity lobbyists because parent company J & J manufactures alternative sugar and surgical gastric bypass products such as Splenda and the Realize gastric band .

If however, RWJF were truly concerned about the health and welfare of people they would start by providing compensation to individuals whose livelihoods were destroyed by their (RWJF) self-serving policies.

Update: During the Monday 9/12/11 GOP debate, candidate Michele Bachmann chastised Gov. Perry for implementing the HPV immunization law, based on the pharmaceutical (Merck) company's lobbying activities and grant money....The audience seemed to overwhelmingly agree with Bachmann.

The White House on Friday released a small list of visitors to the White House since President Barack Obama took office in January, including lobbyists, business executives, activists and celebrities....Checking the White House visitor list you'll see that RWJF President Risa Lavizzo-Mourey has presented her special interest agenda to the White House 7 times thus far.

One of RWJF's goals has been to advocate for a government run healthcare system....it's an agenda they've pushed for 30 years.

To the average non-smoker as I am, it might appear that the American Lung Association, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, American Non-Smoker's Rights, the American Medical Association, countless research Universities around the country, etc. are lobbying our politicians for smoking bans for health reasons.

However, upon some preliminary investigation it is clear that these NGO's are backed by $200,000,000.00 + from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) which has direct ties to the Johnson & Johnson Company, and J & J is the manufacturer of Nicoderm & Nicoderm CQ via its wholly owned subsidiary ALZA. Recently, the buyout of Pfizer means J & J profits even more from the passage of smoking bans thru additional sales of Nicotrol and the new smoking cessation drug Chantix.

The data supplied to these NGO's and subsequently our politicians should be viewed as highly dubious at best, since it comes from the largest manufacturer of pharmaceutical nicotine products which benefits by selling their alternative nicotine products like Nicoderm, Nicoderm CQ, Nicotrol, etc. when tobacco nicotine use is prohibited via smoking bans.

In fact according to this industry watchdog pharmaceutical nicotine product sales is a $500,000,000.00+ annual business almost exclusively owned by the Johnson & Johnson conglomerate, of which RWJF is an entity and single largest shareholder of J & J stock, with a $5.4 billion dollar holding.

For whatever reason our local lawmakers seem to ignore the conflict of interest, if they know about it at all. I am curious if some of these local lawmakers receive campaign support from any or all of these special interests........Are local media outlets, or attorneys general interested in investigating? We'll see.

You can find all 497 grants here. The non-profits demand smoking ban legislation because once they accepted hundreds of millions of dollars from RWJF they became marketing spokesmen for Nicoderm & Nicoderm CQ.

These financial grants are designed to coerce our lawmakers to enact smoking ban legislation. Grants are financed by RWJF via its ownership of $5.4 billion of Johnson & Johnson stock......profits made in part thru continued sales of Nicoderm & Nicoderm CQ. As you can see the recipients are as varied as the American Lung Association, American Cancer Society, American Non-Smokers Rights Foundation, universities, and private "research" companies.

The source of funds used to influence lawmakers to pass smoking bans, coming from the company which profits in sales when smoking bans are implemented, makes the lobbying efforts of any of the recipients highly suspect to say the least.

The only study not funded by pharmaceutical nicotine special interests, is the St. Louis Park Environmental Health Department secondhand smoke air quality test. And the SLP results prove secondhand smoke is 150+ times safer than OSHA requires. I guess that's the reason the American Lung Association, American Cancer Society, American Non-Smokers Rights Foundation and others disapprove of the SLP study.....because they via RWJF did not manipulate (fund) those test results.

The hospitality industry, consisting of bar & restaurant owners, employees suppliers, and vendors call for the boycott of Johnson & Johnson company and its products.

Johnson & Johnson company thru its wholly owned subsidiary ALZA corporation is a primary supplier of pharmaceutical nicotine products such as Nicotrol, Nicoderm, and Nicoderm CQ nicotine patches. And as such Johnson & Johnson company is one of the largest sources of funding to promote smoking bans thru our local governments and politicians, Johnson & Johnson company does this thru their sister organization Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. RWJF does not directly spend lobbying money to influence our politicians, rather they have provided $200,000,000.00 + to the American Lung Association, American Cancer Society, American Non-Smokers Rights Organization, scores of state universities around the country, the American Medical Association and countless other non-profits whose payoffs are chronicled here. It is these non-profits which then influence our local politicians with the multi- million dollars provided to them by the pharmaceutical industry to ensure J & J profits continue by passage of smoking ban legislation. A smoking ban translates to a certain percentage of smokers quitting, who then increase J & J profits by purchasing Nicotrol, Nicoderm, Nicoderm CQ and related products.

We call on all participants, business owners, employees, customers, and all who believe in private property rights unencumbered by unfair corporate influence in our local governments and officials; to cease purchases of Johnson & Johnson products including, but not limited to Nicotrol, Nicoderm, Nicoderm CQ which are contract manufactured by ALZA corporation, a J & J company.

Secondhand smoke has never been proven to be harmful. Furthermore, St. Louis Park, MN. Environmental Health Department test results conducted in all its smoking establishments in 2003- 2004 proved secondhand smoke levels in bars & restaurants is 150 times lower (safer than) OSHA air quality requirements regarding secondhand smoke. 150 times safer.

We call for this boycott to continue until Robert Wood Johnson Foundation along with their cronies American Lung, ACS, AHA, AMA, etc. cease their unfair lobbying practices. And we call on RWJF along with Johnson & Johnson company to reimburse those in the hospitality industry whose businesses and lives were financially ruined due to passage of flawed legislation from their unfair and unethical business practices.
